Julia Soplop is the award-winning author of Equus Rising: How the Horse Shaped History and Documenting Your World Through Photography. She loves delving into just about any subject and figuring out how to bring it to life. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, covering everything from the relationship between altitude and low birth weight, to how abandoned mines cause environmental degradation, to how to become a more responsible consumer of health and science news. She is also the founder of Hill Press, a new small press dedicated to identifying, empowering, and boosting the visibility of independent literary voices. Soplop has a master’s in Medical Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s from Duke University. She lives with her husband and their three girls in the woods outside of Chapel Hill, NC.
