Attention cat owners – if you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted look at cat breeds around the world, that’s full of fabulous photos, then you just might want to check out The Cat’s Pajamas. This book is stuffed full of wonderful pictures that will bring a smile to anybody who has ever been purred upon.
The Cat’s Pajamas is broken down into six chapters – Shorthair, Semilonghair, Longhair, Asian, Oriental, and Miscellaneous as well as an index for searching. For the serious cat aficionado, there may be nothing new here as far as breeds, but for those who are not well versed in the enormous variety within the cat world, there will be numerous “how cool” moments while perusing this book. Have you ever heard of the Russian Blue? They really are blue (!) and the photo of a pair of them scrunched into a cat box is precious. The Temple Cat fast asleep with its teddy bear (or whatever that stuffie is!) is likewise adorable. In fact, I couldn’t find a photo in this book that I didn’t like – okay, perhaps the Persian looking quite annoyed at the pink ribbon in its hair was a bit too contrived but it did make me laugh.
At just over 200 pages, that’s a lot of cats/breeds shown in this book! Admittedly, about three-quarters of the photos are single page prints with text on the opposing page that has information on the breed, background, appearance, color, temperament, as well as a few well-placed quotes. While there’s not enough information for the person shopping for a breed of cat to bring into her home, the book does provide a good starting point to pick a few breeds and then research further. More importantly, it is a fun treat for cat lovers who want some cat-related entertainment.
Quill says: A treat for cat lovers, this book is the perfect gift for those who can’t get enough “cat.”
