Author Interview: Thomas McGovern Jr.

Today, Feathered Quill reviewer Ellen Feld is talking with Thomas McGovern Jr., author of Dedicated to My Immaculate Rose.

FQ: Tell our readers a little about yourself. Your background, your interests, and how this led to writing a book?

MCGOVERN: Two great passion: History and Theatre

These subjects have a similar pathway in that they both utilize the devotees creativity and imagination. Both can transport an individual to another time and era.

My name is Thomas McGovern Jr. and am a travel blogger/social media consultant (specializing in the historical and theater). My interests in history lie in colonial and pre-colonial history, the Civil War and Savannah GA; within the theater community I have always loved the beautiful ladies of the arts!

Where Creativity meets imagination

These characteristics are valued and prized in today's world but are not studied as much as other topics. Dennis Cunningham, former CBS Theatre Critic once stated, “the more advance this world become the more people will crave live theatre.” Mr Cunningham realized theatre is an interactive medium. While we may not personally know the performers on stage they are human; not a representation on a screen. History is also more than the past. It is about our humanness. Theatre and history have parallel qualities. Curiosity, Passion and Sympathy. Three thing the world is much in need of.

FQ: Have you always enjoyed writing or is it something you’ve discovered recently?

MCGOVERN: Yes and really enjoyed penning 'Dedicated to my Immaculate Rose" to honor the most beautiful creation my eyes hav ever seen! Will continue writing and dedicating my life to her for she is wonderful.

FQ: Tell us a little about your book – a brief synopsis and what makes your book unique.

MCGOVERN: The book is dedicated to my Love, the most beautiful and wonderful lady there could ever be. One day these eyes saw her and my heart went "Boom!"

FQ: What was the impetus for writing your book?

MCGOVERN: In these majestic poems, Thomas evokes the spirit of ancient chivalry and love. Each poem is a dedication to a higher ideal - a love elevated to the point of religion. Read these poems and be inspired by the romantic love of a bygone era!

FQ: Please give our readers a little insight into your writing process. Do you set aside a certain time each day to write, only write when the desire to write surfaces, or ...?

MCGOVERN: To date I have written over 340 sonnet (and counting) from the heart. My writing process is 'just speak from the depth of your soul as if talking to Our Lord.

FQ: Who are your favorite authors?

MCGOVERN: I am more into history and my favorite historical figure has to be Samuel Adams. "Without Sam, I do not think the American Revolution would have taken place"– John Adams. Samuel Adams is a leading patriot of the war on independence and a quiet troublemaker. He was not over zealous in life. In fact, Mr. Adams is one of the lesser know patriots.

FQ: As an author/writer, what famous author (living or dead), would you like to have dinner with, and why?

MCGOVERN: Again this is within the historic. St. Theres of Lisieux (the Little Flower) Samuel Adams

FQ: If you were to teach a class on the art of writing, what is the one item you would be sure to share with your students and how would you inspire them to get started?

MCGOVERN: If everyone could find their passion (writing, photography, painting, etc) think of the world we could create. A world of beauty instead of hatred and violence. I have often ask the question, "Does all art come from anger?" If we could but channel all the hate in some productive, we might conquer violence...
