Through the Looking Glass is a beautiful story that is overflowing with hope, love, humor, faith, and miracles and it was such a joy to read.
This is the story of Kristen Williams, one of the foremost fertility specialists in Los Angeles. Due to a car accident in her past, Kristen lost the two most important things in her life...her mother and the ability to have a child of her own. Rather than focusing on her losses and becoming depressed, this very strong woman has devoted her life to giving other couples the joy that she herself cannot have, a healthy baby. When she is not working, Kristen leads a very full life with her church and her many friends, always keeping herself busy, happy, and connected to God, while not dwelling on her problems. Kristen is one who truly believes in the fact that God has a plan and it will be the correct one.
With her life being so settled there has to be a surprise in store for her and she meets that surprise in the form of Blake Nixon, the brother of one of Kristen’s patients, at church. Blake has just moved to Los Angeles from Switzerland and is also a doctor. These two are the perfect pair, from their careers to their personalities to their strong faith in God so it is no surprise that the friendship quickly turns to love and marriage. Due to their strong faith they are able to come to terms with the fact that they will not have children and quickly decide that adoption is the way to go to have a family. Of course, dear readers, that just means that there is now a surprise ray of hope which may give Kristen and Blake their very own miracle.
Through the Looking Glass is a wonderful and inspiring read. The characters are very well-written and the supporting characters in the book are just as fun and interesting as the main characters which allows the reader to really care about everyone in the story. From the girls that work in the clinic, to Kristen’s partner John, to Blake’s sister, to Sarah and Abraham who come to Kristen for help in becoming parents after so many disappointments, every character is interesting and the author is able to make us care about each and every one of them and their story. In particular, John’s transformation throughout the book is fabulous and I loved reading it.
This is a superb story and a part of that is because the subject matter is real and something that is a part of so many lives. G. Sylvester has done a perfect job of bringing it across to the reader in all of its joy and pain. Watching Kristen and Blake, as well as all of the other characters, maneuver through this thing called life without losing themselves or their faith was very inspiring and I would recommend the book to everyone.
Quill says: Through the Looking Glass is truly moving and would make a great addition to any library. The happiness and inspiration it brings to the reader will be left behind long after you have started reading your next book.
