A wealth of inspirational quotes is printed across the pages of The Little Book of Quotes by Women: Inspiring Words to Live By, written by Kathleen Welton.

Anchored by many positive and succinct quotes from iconic humans through the years is ever-present in this compilation. There are quotes representing a spectrum of subjects ranging from courage to freedom as well as lessons and strength. Suffice it to say we humans travel through life in search of words that have been spoken that are uplifting for our present moment. We could be struggling from the loss of a loved one, celebrating the triumph of a personal victory, or simply seeking something that fortifies our strength. No matter the state of mind, this book appeals to a variety of emotions. There are quotes that range from sentiments uttered by the famous redhead Lucille Ball to Hellen Keller. It’s difficult to select one of the many profound quotes, but one that truly resonates with me is by Ayn Rand: “Learn to value yourself, which means: fight for your happiness.” Truer words have not been spoken in quite some time.

The book builds in impact and is logically laid out in a total of twelve chapters devoted to specific themes: Beauty, Courage, Freedom, and Friendship, to name a few. We learn a bit of the backstory in assembling the book where the author imparts her personal inspiration in writing the book: “…I have been a collector of both quotes and postage stamps for as long as I can remember. While I was familiar with many of these women and their quotes, I enjoyed discovering even more inspirational quotes by them as well as new quotes from many other women…” There is something for everyone thanks to the sentiments captured across the pages. Another thoughtful addition to this body of work is the series of pages at its end where the reader can jot down his/her favorite quotes and reasoning that points to a particular selection.

I give Ms. Welton huge props for gathering the many quotes and housing them between the covers of this book. This is the perfect addition to find its resting place on a coffee table. The title is enticing in that we as humans are constantly in search of a powerful statement that lasts long beyond its utterance. The cover is well-thought-out in that it entices the prospective audience to pick it up and browse, especially from its catchy title: The Little Book of Quotes by Women: Inspiring Words to Live By. Again, there are so many profound quotes, it’s difficult to settle upon one. However, in these tumultuous times we are living through in America and throughout the world, this is a beacon of ‘hope’ by Isadora Duncan: “Movements are as eloquent as words.” Bravo for making the time to deliver such a useful and inspirational compilation, Ms. Welton.
