Children and their parents first got to meet this incredible character in Princess Cupcake Jones and the Missing Tutu. Now, Cupcake is back and facing one of the scariest days that all children ever experience...her first day of school.
Immediately parents will smile as they read this tale to their kids (or, perhaps even enjoy it for themselves), because Cupcake is literally going to do everything that the rest of us did to avoid school. The first day is daunting: you are walking into a classroom not knowing anybody. The teacher is staring at you; your new future friends are staring at you; and everyone looks as if an alien is landing because the fear and anxiety is written all over their faces.
As Cupcake progresses, she finds excuse after excuse – from the old, “I’m sick,” ploy to the “Hide as fast as possible” gimmick. Of course, the Queen simply smiles and uses the old tricks that parents have learned from their time of not being able to get out of going to school. If you’re sick...we best call a doctor then. And instead of a scary day at school, there will most likely be pills and a shot to make you feel better. YUCK! Worse than school, right?
Princess Cupcake is a great character to learn from. Although she lives in a palace, her fears are the same as everyone else’s. And when you find that friend that you just know will be one of your best friends for life on that first day, you know that you have started on a path to a great future.
Parents will love this book because it's a fun story, yet also enoy the fact that it's a learning tool for their own children who think of school as a big, fire-breathing dragon. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, offering vivid colors and scenes that will be easy for a child to understand.
Quill says: Bring on more ‘Cupcakes’ in the future because this is a great series for kids!
