Everyone loves to go to a fair and one of people’s favorite things to buy there are swirls of big, puffy, pink cotton candy. Pink is a beautiful color that many people love and if you “Look around you...pink is everywhere!” A little girl leans forward in a rose garden to smell some pink roses, roses that smell as good as they look. Pink cherry blossoms are also very beautiful and are a sight people look forward to in the spring. In this book you can see that several families have spread out blankets underneath cherry trees to enjoy themselves. There are “many things we eat and drink [that] are pink.” For example, the inside of a grapefruit and lemonade can be pink. Mmmmmm! The color “pink can be seen on animals too!” Flamingos and cute little piglets are pink.

Some “women wear pink lipstick and blush” and very often we can see ballerinas who “leap in pink tutus and ballet slippers.” Not all pinks are the same shade. In fact there are several different shades of pink. There is pastel pink, hot pink, fuchsia, and salmon. In this book you’ll get to see examples of each one. Baby Emily, who is “wrapped in a pastel pink blanket,” is adorable! There are also many different “sayings about the color pink.” For example, when someone is “tickled pink” it means that they are “very pleased.” You’ll also learn about the saying “in the pink.” You’ll meet Paige, whose favorite color is pink, and you’ll get to see some of her favorite things, which of course are pink!

If you want to introduce colors in the homeschool or classroom setting, this particular series is an excellent choice. The book is nicely laid out with engaging photographic examples that young children will take to. For example, the caption under a photograph of two adorable piglets says, “These piglets are pink and fuzzy.” I liked the fact that in addition to introducing the color, the book also emphasizes that there are different shades of pink and simple, common, understandable idiomatic expressions are introduced. In the back of the book there are some “Fun Facts,” an index, a glossary, and additional recommended books and a website to explore.
