Curious about mushrooms? If so, you need to check out Mushroom Rain, because you'll learn lots of facts about these incredible fungi.

Mushroom Rain explores the unique and amazing life cycle of mushrooms. On the first few pages we are given a visual treat as the author and illustrator do an incredible job of introducing the reader to a wide variety of mushrooms. The reader learns about small, umbrella-like mushrooms and others that glow green. Turn the page and learn about some of the odd smells that these fungi can give off, such as one that smells like bubble gum and another that gives off an odor much like rotten cabbage. The reader will also meet some of the creatures that eat mushrooms as well as learn what "mushroom rain" means.

Author Laura K. Zimmermann has done an excellent job of researching mushrooms and presenting facts that will intrigue young readers. And it's clear that the illustrator, Jamie Green, is passionate about mushrooms - beautiful and detailed artwork is found on every page. Finally, at the back of the book is a four-page, extensive guide with facts about every aspect of mushrooms, from how mushrooms seed the clouds, to the largest known mushroom-producing fungus in the world.

Quill says: Whether in need of a good book for a research project or just curious about these amazing fungi, Mushroom Rain is an excellent book to educate about mushrooms.
