From new author Patricia Angeles comes her debut book, a touching biography entitled Midpoint: A Memoir. Angeles has written this poignant memoir as a tribute to her three daughters in an effort to leave them a lasting legacy.
Angeles’ book is a compilation of significant events from her first thirty-eight years of life, beginning with birth up until her present day. Angeles was born in 1984 in the Philippines, where she lived until 2005, when she immigrated to southern California, where she lives to this day. Her book includes noteworthy events from her childhood that helped shape who she became as an adult, and eventually what career path she would choose to embark upon. She also writes about the life-changing events of her children being born and how parenting would go on to influence her later in life. The conclusion of her book was rather unique because rather than simply summarizing her life experiences to date, she found herself looking ahead to the rest of her life, or as she called it, the journey to her endpoint.
It is refreshing that Angeles includes both positive and negative life experiences, and is not afraid to be vulnerable and raw to her readers. She does not sugarcoat negative experiences that she went through; rather, she owns them, admits her mistake if there was one, and offers what she learned from the entire situation. Her resiliency was clearly evident throughout the book, as she encountered and overcame struggles in various experiences.
Angeles' writing is succinct and easily understood, and her experiences will no doubt be highly relatable for many readers. Angeles also did a great job choosing the title of her book. The title Midpoint is appropriate, considering she is at the literal midpoint of the average human lifespan.
Quill says: Patricia Angeles’ Midpoint: A Memoir is a well-written, relatable, and engaging biography. Angeles appears to have undoubtedly achieved her goal of leaving a lasting legacy for her daughters with this book, and in the process, will likely touch many other people’s lives as well.
