Noted digital director, business advisor, and CEO with enlivening ideas for helping others, Lisa Thee has constructed a manual for hardworking, like-minded females who need support and direction as they struggle with career challenges and the wish to advance and achieve.
Thee taught herself a valuable lesson from experience at her first summer job as an overseer on an auto assembly line: “It doesn’t cost a penny to be kind.” This understanding steered her later toward both private volunteer work and the corporate creation of efforts to assure the safety and well-being of children. She has had her share of ups and downs, with a low point being the pandemic years when, while continuing to pursue her career in the cellular marketplace, she contracted Covid, but kept moving forward, trying to organize her workdays to fulfill all her obligations. The Covid turned to “long Covid” and the subsequent discovery of other, structural ailments. Still, she persisted, and in 2020, she was selected to give a keynote address for a TEDx conference, centered on her endeavors in the field of anti-human-trafficking. Although she was nervous and unsure of her ability to talk without notes as was required, she triumphed. It is this grit, and the wish to “be kind” at every level, that infuses her narrative. To fulfill the book’s purpose, Thee gathered a “committee” of 30 successful women whose experience is relevant and whose quotations underscore her pertinent points.
Thee’s widespread achievements in the cyber world have included the foundation of the data outreach organization, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, to efficiently generate swift, national response to child abuse reports. Among other distinguishing credits, she was named to the 2022 Top 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics global list. Her 90-day “Reboot Process,” targeted for working women like herself, is refreshingly practical, beginning with the instruction to keep an “energy log” to note how much and which types of efforts one expends at different times, in varying settings. The proposition to “take daily walks without looking at your phone” could and should be part of everyone’s routine. Emphasis on such common issues as burnout, mentoring and workplace diversity are addressed, with useful charts and statistics offered. Thee’s array of advice, based on her own experience, is carefully and caringly devised to assist other women to maintain a flow of upward-directed, self-confident energies.
