Teaching young preschoolers the importance and beauty of prayer can begin with a simple board book they can comfortably hold in their hands. Little children quickly learn to assimilate and appreciate Jewish culture, life and its holidays when they are able to participate. The "Hamotzi" is the most well known and frequently spoken Hebrew blessing recited before eating the bread. This small poetic book is one that shows appreciation for the gifts God provides families.
Baruch Atah Adonai,
Eloheinu, melech ha'olam
havotzi lechem min ha'aretzThank you God,
for the blessing of bread,
and for the meal
which we will now enjoy. This charming board book containing a "thank you prayer" will help the young preschooler become aware of and participate in family mealtime traditions. Jacqueline Jules's ability to create the perfect sing song verse is evident in this small book that introduces the Hamotzi. "Bread and butter on my plate, / I'm so hungry, I can't wait." This verse makes it all the more appealing to little ones. The artwork is simple, colorful and appealing.
Quill says: If you are looking for introductory Jewish material for your preschooler this book in the series, "Very First Board Books," is one you might want to add to your list!
