Today, Feathered Quill reviewer Ellen Feld is talking with Paul Turay, author of Embrace The Passion In A Lover's Dream.

FQ: Tell our readers a little about yourself. Your background, your interests, and how this led to writing a book?

TURAY: I am a poetry lover. Mainly an old school approach where the delivery is short, sweet, and rhyme which you don’t see too often these days. What led me to writing was when I discovered Edgar Allen Poe's “ The Raven" in high-school. I fell in love with the words and how they really drew you in. Also writing to me is very therapeutic.

FQ: Tell us a little about your book – a brief synopsis and what makes your book unique.

TURAY: My book, Embrace The Passion In A Lover's Dream, is very personal and comes from the heart. These poems were written from being on the outside looking in. What I would tell that particular woman how beautiful she was if I only had a chance.

FQ: What was the impetus for writing your book?

TURAY: The impetus and energy on how the book is written comes from the deepest place inside my soul. Sometimes being the nice guy I never had a chance with any women out there. These poems are almost like visions or daydreams about a beautiful woman I ran into in an elevator or store. These love poems are about their reflection of beauty to me and if I only had the chance to say how beautiful they are.

FQ: Please give our readers a little insight into your writing process. Do you set aside a certain time each day to write, only write when the desire to write surfaces, or ?

TURAY: I typically start with a title and build from there. Sometimes the titles will pop in my head and other times the titles and poems come to mind when I wake up in the middle of the night. It really varies.

FQ: The genre of your book is poetry. Why this genre?

TURAY: I do love to read poetry. To me it’s more than literature but also an artistic expression of words and phrases. I thought it would have been challenging at the very beginning but things seemed to fall right into place.

FQ: Is there a genre you have not yet delved into that you would like to attempt in the future?

TURAY: Maybe a short story or novel. Still undecided.

FQ: Who are your favorite authors?

TURAY: I tend to stick to the classics like Edgar Allen Poe and Robert Frost. Their style of poetry really speaks to me.

FQ: As an author/writer, what famous author (living or dead), would you like to have dinner with, and why?

TURAY: It would have to be Edgar Allen Poe. I would have really like to know how his mind worked and what inspired him as a writer.

FQ: If you were to teach a class on the art of writing, what is the one item you would be sure to share with your students and how would you inspire them to get started?

TURAY: To always use every word that comes to mind. Even if it’s a few phrases here and there. They can always be used.

FQ: What was the most difficult part of writing this book?

TURAY: The most difficult part of writing this book to me was picking the poems that were to be used in this book. I had so many to hand pick from. All my poems are like my babies. I love them all and each one is very sacred and special to me.
