By day Geanna Culbertson is a marketing and content lead at one of the world’s top fulfillment and logistics companies. But “by night” she is the award-winning author of the Christmas novel The Present, the new guardian angels series Heaven’t You Heard?, and The Crisanta Knight Series. The latter is what she is most known for and is the foundation of her brand the Culbertson Kingdom Literary Universe.
The Crisanta Knight Series is a nine-book epic of enchantment, adventure, and inspiration. The series follows the children and younger siblings of fairytale characters, all of whom live in a magical world called “Book,” where citizens train to be the next generation of main characters in stories. Told from the empowering, sassy perspective of Cinderella’s daughter, this series is known for its action, humor, heart, epic world building, strong friendships, and dynamic characters. As the books develop, we delve into many worlds like Camelot, Oz, Dreamland, Sleepy Hollow, Earth, and Neverland just to name a few. Reviewers have frequently described the series as “Harry Potter for Princesses.”
Driven by a heroine who is strong, smart, and bold, the series and its author regularly team up with schools (from elementary to university level), Girls on the Run, Girl Scouts, and Read to a Child to create programming that inspires people to activate their potential and pursue their passions. The series has been featured in Girls’ Life Magazine as recommended reading for preteen and teen girls.
Culbertson is a proud alumna of the University of Southern California where she earned her B.A. in Public Relations and triple minor degrees in Marketing, Cinematic Arts, and Critical Approaches to Leadership. She is a part of only 1.3% of her graduating class to earn the double distinction of Renaissance Scholar and Discovery Scholar. Her Discovery Scholar thesis “Beauty & the Badass: Origins of the Hero-Princess Archetype” earned her acclaim in the School of Cinematic Arts, and helped fuel her female protagonist focused writing passions.
Growing up, Culbertson always loved hero stories and princess stories, but the two archetypes did not mesh well enough for her liking and she wanted to create a female main character that embodies the fundamental values of both kinds of characters — a “hero-princess” if you will. This became the heart of her series, and as a result her books are unafraid to dabble in valiancy and vulnerability, and address the complex balance and battle between the two.
Going along with this, she is passionate about writing books that aren’t loaded with close-your-eyes violence and inappropriate content that floods most markets today. And, unlike a lot of female-led fiction where romance is a priority (if not THE priority), her coming-of-age stories emphasize the heroine’s personal journey first. As she's delved further into the development of dynamic main characters, Culbertson has put emphasis on other core themes such as change, self-acceptance, morality, living up to potential, friendship, perseverance, and the power of choice.
Now with 11 books under her brand in 16+ countries with a growing following, her hope is to continue to expand her literary universe AND take it to the next level!
