Author Bios: Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith is a wildlife biologist with a PhD in Zoology. He’s an award-winning author of five books of science, natural history, and outdoor adventure, including Life on the Rocks: A Portrait of the American Mountain Goat, which won the National Outdoor Book Award.

Drawing on his experiences studying wild animals in the American West, he now writes novels of magical realism and animal fantasy that capture the imaginations of young readers and immerse them in the natural world. His debut novel, Legend Keepers: The Chosen One, was published in 2021. Legend Keepers: The Partnership (2022) is the second novel in this middle-grade eco-fiction trilogy in which both kids and animal characters confront the climate crisis. Both books were honored with Feathered Quill Book Awards.

Bruce and his illustrator wife, Diana, live in southwest Montana not far from mountain goats.
